Spring/Summer League
Shetland The Shetland division in 2010 will be played without a pitching machine. Coaches will pitch to the kids for 5-6 pitches and if the batter does not make contact (fair), the tee will be used. Outs are enforced but no scoring is kept officially. Ten players play the field (as does in Pinto league) and kids are moved around inning by inning. Six batters per team bat each inning for a maximum of five innings. The schedule for all games will be updated on this website under the Schedules link.
Pinto The 2010 season will again feature nothing but kid pitch. All parents are encouraged to get involve with the team by being a team mom, scorekeeper, stat-tracker, base-coach, or assistant coach. Big Barrel bats (bats exceeding 2-1/4 in) may be outlawed this year for league competition. The schedule/results for all games will be maintained under the Schedules link on this website as well as game information and pictures. Updates are encoraged from fans/parents to the managers.
Mustang The Mustang field has lights and kids pitch from 44 feet. Stealing is allowed once the ball reaches the catcher. Teams are only allowed to play nine players in the field. The league is instructional, but will build on the concept of fostering competitive play by emphasizing the importance of sportsmanship, developing baseball basic skills, and building on a knowledge of the game. When the weather improves, night games are played during the week and on the weekends, (chiefly when school recesses for the summer) or on Friday nights. The league will have an in house all-star game (National League VS. American League) with all teams represented, as well as participate in 2 All-Star invitational tournaments throughout July. Selection of these players will be on a competitive basis. The schedule/results for all games will be maintained under the Schedules link on this website as well as game information and pictures.
Bronco / Pony The Bronco Division (11 & 12 year old players) and the Pony Division (13 & 14 year old players) continues Lockport Boys’ Baseball goal of teaching youth baseball, except at a more advanced level. Players participating in these divisions are viewed as having reached an age and maturity where competition can be viewed as a healthy aspect of the game. While standings and win/losses are recorded and rewarded, the Bronco/Pony Divisions are not competitive to the point that any player should be discouraged at his/her lack of ability or success. Although the desire to excel and win games is a part of the Bronco/Pony Divisions, the main focus of Lockport Boys’ Baseball objective is foremost in the minds of all player/adult participants – Sportsmanship, Integrity, Pride, Loyalty, Courage and Respect for the support and nurturing of the youth in our community. The Bronco Division field is lighted and has an approximate 20 game schedule (plus play-off games). Games and practices are held thru-out the week and weekends. When the weather improves later in the season, night games are also played. The pitchers mound is moved to 48 feet and the base paths are 70 feet. More major league baseball rules are incorporated such as actual lead-offs and the pitchers being able to pick-off base runners. The Pony Division is structured similar to the Bronco Division except Lockport Boys’ Baseball teams may also play teams from the surrounding communities. The pitchers mound is moved to 54 feet and the base paths are 80 feet. Both divisions have all-star teams chosen by the managers and coaches to play in local area tournaments. The Bronco Division will also have an end of season in-house all-star game (National vs. American) to give more players an opportunity to experience tournament level play.
METRO Metro teams will be formed from the league starting with the 8U level and working up. Some of the "Metro" teams will be part time, others full time. Metro teams are travel teams. The full-time teams will only play a travel schedule (from 30-40 games). Part-time teams will play a travel schedule (15-20 games) plus recreational games. Kids trying out for the Metro teams are expected to know the fundamentals of the game, understand sportsmanship, teamwork, and give 100% all of the time. All Metro home games are scheduled either on Tuesday or Sunday to avoid conflicts with the recreational leagues at all levels. .
