7U ALL-STAR NEWS
All-Stars finish 4th in Homer Tourney

RESULTS FROM TINLEY PARK TOURNEY (7/14/2009)
Playing together in a game for the first time after only three practices, the 7U All Star team quickly became a true team and fell just short of the Championship game in the Tinley Park 7U tournament.  Lockport started out the tournament with a convincing 10-3 win over Flossmoor as the team combined for 8 hits and 13 walks.  With the host Tinley Park Bulldogs up next, the All Stars were prepared to get the bats to explode, however, the wildness of the Tinley Park pitchers resulted in 15 walks, 2 hit batsmen, and only 3 hits, but a 15-0 Lockport mercy rule win after 3 innings.  Next up for the All Stars was Mokena and the winning streak stopped at two.  Lockport's bats went cold on a warm day and the Mokena Mayhem walked away with a 9-2 victory.  However, with a 2-1 record in pool play, and the convincing wins earlier in the tournament, the Lockport All Stars were moving on to the semi-final round against the Number 1 seed Troy ball club.  Lockport jumped on the Troy team early and had a 2-0 lead going in to the 4th inning, however, Troy's 3-run 4th inning was enough to secure the victory and end the All Stars tournament one game short of the championship with the 3-2 loss.  Getting their first experience with tournament baseball and new rules, this team and group of boys are destined to be a permanent fixture in Lockport Boys Baseball for years to come.  The team is expecting bigger and better things from the upcoming Homer tournament.

National and American 8-Year Olds Fit To Be Tied

LBB SportsNet Wire

LOCKPORT, IL   -- Eight-year old kids never looked so poised or evenly matched.   In the end, Lockport Boys Baseball fans and parents were the big winners after watching a fun display of back-and-forth competition that ended the way it began.

The American and National League all-stars battled to a 4-4 tie on Memorial Day 2009 at Dellwood Park.   The weather morphed from a light drizzle into a typical spring evening just in time for the show to begin, and what a show it turned out to be.

The visiting American Leaguers came out swinging in their half of the first.   Brandon Goddard singled and came home on a rocket double off the right-field fence from C.J. Weins to put the A.L. ahead 1-0.   Jacob Karli’s single moved Weins to third, after which Mitch Price laced an RBI-single for a 2-0 lead.   Declan Ruane (2-for-2) then belted a double that scored Karli and gave the A.L. a 3-0 advantage.

Steven Rasmussen started a second-inning rally for the National Leaguers with a ringing double and was followed by Zack Mattix’ single to put runners at second and third with two outs.   John Elsen then blasted a clutch triple into the left field corner to score both runners and cut the deficit to 3-2.

In the A.L. half of the fourth, Tommy Skoczek crushed a solo home run high off the left field fence to give his club a 4-2 advantage.   The National Leaguers struck back in the bottom of the inning when Kyle Dixon and Richie Jesse (2-for-2) each ripped singles and came home on Ethan Ciciora’s gap double that drew the game even at 4-4.

Jake Brasen (2-for-3) belted a one-out single in the sixth, but the rally fizzled behind strong pitching from Elsen.   In the bottom of the sixth, Weins came on to extinguish the National Leaguer’s last chance and the game officially ended in a tie.

Both sides walked away proud of having displayed good hitting, solid fielding and effective pitching, but most importantly, great sportsmanship on all fronts.   The talent pool for the Pinto 8-year olds clearly runs deep.

The Pinto league is open to 7 and 8 year old children
(your child must be 7 on or before April 30, 2009).

General Information:

Generally, managers are asked to meet with their teams three times a week.  This includes games and practices.

All children are required to wear a protective cup.  Rubber spikes are optional.

When your child goes to practice, they should be dressed properly, comfortable pants (no jeans), baseball hat, glove and bring water.

Parents are encouraged to help out at practice so you can help your child at home with what they are learning at practices.

If you have any questions or need further information, please contact Pinto Director Don Salvino at Icanhaul@sbcglobal.net
